Initiative 6: Screen Heritage
Recline, relax and enjoy a day of big screen entertainment in Trent Bridge's unique surroundings. Don't forget your picnic rugs!
Programmed in association with Broadway, the wonderful feast of films – including big features Paddington and Grease – will be accompanied by some vintage gems from the vaults of the Media Archive for Central England (MACE) – home to thousands of films charting the moving image history of the last century and the 1930s feature 'The Adventures of Robin Hood' starring Errol Flynn.
One of the archive films, shot in colour, records some of the memorable matches that took place at Trent Bridge during the summer of '64. The film of the Ashes Test Match between England and Australia features players as they practice in the nets and discuss tactics ahead of the game including Freddie Trueman, Colin Cowdrey, Geoff Boycott and the captains Ted Dexter and Bob Simpson. The film also shows a Trent Bridge ground of more than 50 years ago and the age-old problem of 'rain stops play'!
