Initiative 5: Community Connectors
Film Hub Central East is supporting Phoenix in an effort to develop family and young audiences for independent Indian cinema.
The project, Reel India, will enable Phoenix, in collaboration with Children's Film Society, India to procure and exhibit a catalogue of Indian family films never before seen in UK cinemas, allowing them to trial an introduction of more specialised film into their mainstream family and young people's programme.
Screenings will take place on the third Saturday of every month for the duration of the project. Knowledge gained from these screenings will be shared with FHCE members in the hope of being able to offer venues the chance to programme directly from the catalogue.
Phoenix believes that the development of young and family audiences presents a challenge shared by many independent cinema operators, especially those seeking to broaden film choice through specialised film.
It is hoped that this project will widen the scope of product available whilst reflecting the diverse population of Leicester and the wider member towns and cities.
All titles will be presented in Hindi with English subtitles, meaning that films may not be suitable for younger non-Hindi speaking audiences. However, we are encouraging children and families from all demographics to come and enjoy these magical films, thus introducing younger audiences to the possibilities and enjoyment on offer from specialised programming.
